NEMA warns residents over scooping of diesel in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS – National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, Lagos State, on Friday, sounded a warning to the residents of Abule -Osun, near Festac Town in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, to avoid scooping of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) popularly known as diesel spilling from the pipeline traversing their area.

NEMA Acting Coordinator, Lagos State, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the agency got a report of AGO spillage from the pipeline as residents scooped the product.

He said the signal from the axis portends serious danger which residents must avoid to avert danger.

The Acting Coordinator seized the opportunity to call on the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC, to shut down the valve supplying diesel into the area. He said, ” NEMA has called on the safety unit of the NNPC to shut down supply in order to control the flow of diesel to the area,”

“We hereby urge the community and opinion leaders in the area to dissuade their people from scooping the product for their
own safety.” He added.
