15 abductees escape from kidnappers’ den in Niger

FIFTEEN villagers including men and women who were recently abducted by suspected bandits in Tegina town, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have reportedly escaped from their Kidnappers over the weekend.

It was gathered the victims were among those captured along with the 156 pupils of the Salihu Tanko Islamic school in Tegina about two weeks ago.

It was learnt that after their abduction, the adults and the children were kept in different locations.

The adults among them were said to have been ferried into Zamfara forests while the children were kept in another undisclosed location.

However, on Friday night, fifteen of them escaped as they managed to open the door of the house in which they were kept in the forest after the bandits drafted to watch over them fell into a deep sleep due to drunkenness.

One of the victims that first showed up in Tegina broke the news that made the Niger State government to quickly move into action to assist the remaining victims.

Among the victims were a councillor,  driver and one other person who  arrived Tegina in the morning.

Also, It was gathered that another victim who is currently receiving medical attention at a medical facility was rescued and brought to Minna.

Confirming the development, a senior government official who pleaded anonymity said the victim has been attended to and will soon be reunited with his family in Kuta.

The source said,

“presently, security agencies have been sent to the Tegina – Birnin- Gwari road to await the arrival of the remaining 10 escapees. Once we get them, we will bring them to Minna for proper attention.”
