CITIZENS COMPASS– RIVERS State Police Command has arrested a Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chinyere Igwe for alleged money laundering to the tune of $498,100 which was found in his car.

He was arrested on Friday, February 24, 2023, by policemen deployed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Headquarters, Aba Road while on-stop-and-search operation.

Igwe was said to have confessed that the money was given to him by the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to ensure his (Atiku) electoral victory in Rivers State at Saturday’s polls.

Chinyere Emmanuel is the current Commissioner of Urban Development, having been sworn in on 18 December 2015.

A statement signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, noted that a list for distribution of the money was also recovered from the alleged electoral violator.

Meanwhile, the AIG Election, AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered that Igwe be charged with money laundering after the conclusion of the investigation.
