
I was 18-year-old when I started driving trucks — 23-year-old female driver
CITIZENS COMPASS– A 23-year-old female trucker has captured attention on social media when she said that she was 19-year-old when she started driving trucks.
The 23-year-old lady was being interviewed by a man to the amazement of many onlookers.
Though the interviewer did not ask for the driver’s name, she shocked everyone when she said that she started driving trucks about four years ago as she developed a passion for it.
The trucker said she hails from Ogbomosho in Oyo State though but grew up in Ondo State.
According to her, “I developed a passion for driving while staying with my older sister whose husband was in charge of some vehicles and I got attracted to driving while following him about.
“A friend assisted me by introducing me to my boss who taught me how to drive trucks.I am from Akoro’s Compound in Ogbomosho, Oyo State but we grew up in Ondo State while my grandparents reside in Ogbomosho.”
On challenges, she said the trucks sometimes suffer flat tyre on the road.
The female trucker said she doesn’t face sexual harassment in the course of her chosen field.
“I have a male apprentice. I don’t face sexual harassment. I am happy doing it. I receive encouragement from people.”
The interview rounded off with some words of encouragement saying, “What you are doing is like changing people’s perspective about feminism.
“Women are regarded as weaker vessels. I personally want to commend you for finding yourself in a vocation often done by men.
“Whenever a female is found in such settings, it amazes people. When next you come to Ogbomosho, I will personally introduce you to Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege lll, His Majesty, the Soun of Ogbomosoland.”
