CITIZENS COMPASS– Some hoodlums have reportedly pushed a 20-year-old boy from a storey building in Mushin area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Saturday night, at Omoniyi street, Mushin-Oloosa.

Problem started when the hoodlums forcefully gained entrance into the building harassing and robbing the occupants.

The boy was said to be standing near an unprotected window watching his parents being robbed by the miscreants.

He was said to have pleaded for leniency but the miscreants ignored him.

Citizens Compass gathered that as they were doing this, one of the hoodlums mistakenly flung the boy outside the unprotected window and he landed on the compound.

He gave up the ghost on the spot.

Until his unfortunate death, the boy was said to have completed secondary school awaiting what the future had in stock for him.

The news of his death was said to have attracted sympathisers who initiated a chase but the hoodlums escaped into the nearby Awolowo Market.

Citizens Compass reports that residents protested the untimely death and incessant harassment, looting and robbery at broad daylight in the area.

The protest culminated yesterday, at Martins Street with a call to the Nigeria Police to beam its searchlight to curtail hoodlums’ activities in Mushin and its environs.

Among the protesters was an elder, Sina Akingbade who said that he could nolonger sleep with his eyes closed over hoodlums’ activities.

According to him, the hoodlums usually operate day and night to rob, loot and maim people. He said, “The hoodlums operate unhindered both day and night. They have looted shops, offices and homes.

“The hoodlums who are mostly youths go about with a saw, chisel and hammer to forcefully gain entry into their target areas.

“Whenever they enter a street, they may target two or more buildings and anybody who dates them, will find himself to blame. We are helpless at this point.”

Another resident who simply identified himself as ‘Woli Seun seun’ lamented how he lost fortune to one of the attacks. “They made away with my jewellery and other valuable items. Police usually arrive late upon receiving distress calls. We are helpless.” He said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Police Command on Tuesday, said it has detained 23 suspected hoodlums responsible for the assaults, harassment, and stealing.

Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this in a statement.

He said that the suspects, ranging from age 14 to 16 years, were apprehended on Monday at Ishaga, Awolowo and Ojuwoye areas.
