
Two-year in office: Ogunleye gives account of stewardship, promises people-centered governance

CITIZENS COMPASS– Honourable Gbolahan Ogunleye, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has promised his constituents an exemplified purposeful representation, grassroots leadership, and people-centered governance in his service to his people.
Ogunleye, who represents Ikorodu Constituency I under the APC, made the promise during the celebration of his two years of impactful representation and accounts of stewardship to his constituents in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Citizen Compass reports that the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly was inaugurated on June 6, 2023.
Ogunleye, Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development and Goals said the work ranges from social interventions to infrastructural progress to which efforts have touched lives across communities.
The lawmaker highlighted some of his achievements in the last two years of his inclusive representation to include; visiting and donating food items and cash support in celebration of his 50th birthday.
He said that his administration also distributed over 3,500 palliative food packs across communities in the constituency and organised economic empowerment which has been a clear focus of his administration.
The lawmaker said he partnered Princes Busola Isikalu Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu, to distribute ₦5 million interest-free capital to petty traders through market association.
He said that In another impactful gesture, 100 women received ₦50,000 each as business support including providing jobs and educational opportunities and over 100 Ikorodu indigenes secured federal employment slots facilitated through his office.
“I facilitate entry for students seeking admission into Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), and Lagos State School of Nursing.
“It also supported inter-school debates organised between public schools in Ikorodu Local Government and KAODAD Secondary School.
“This and many more educational and civic engagements reflect my multi-faceted approach to development,” he said.
He said his administration collaborated with medical teams through his health intervention, to enable free cataract surgeries for 10 residents and the facilitation of Lagos State Government’s(LASG) physical health challenge support programme for constituents.
He said he has been at the fore-front on infrastructural development to his constituents, facilitating construction of schools like Odongunyan Primary School by LASG to save pupils from walking dangerous distances to school.
Ogunleye highlighted some of the road facilitated for rehabilitation and construction within Ikorodu metropolis which includes; Femi Olasanoye, part of Dayo Akinyemi, Banjo, and Aljaja Olaribigbe streets in Owutu under Phase VII in Ikorodu West.
“My regular oversight function reflects my commitment to accountability and follow-through.
“I also work closely with the Ministry of Rural Developmen to facilitate procurement of transformers Odogunyan and Erikorodo communities bringing electricity relief to underserved areas,” he said.
The lawmaker said he partnered with the Lagos State Sports Association (LASSA) to donate table tennis courts to Anglican, Muslim, Methodist, and Etunrenre primary schools as an advocate of education and youth development.
“Investment in physical education and youth engagement, my office has also supported various school sporting activities and teacher-focused programmes.
“I have further reinforcing my visio
n for a well-rounded educational ecosystem.
“My love for justice was evident in his intervention in the wrongful detention of one Mr Babatunde Abiodun Modred, who was arrested and imprisoned without due process.
“Through my efforts, the young man regained his freedom.
“I also mediated during sensitive urban planning activities, such as in Ogolonto, where demolitions were affecting residents without proper communication,” he said.
He said that cultural identity and tradition has remained close to his heart as demonstrated on his active participation in Ikorodu’s traditional and cultural life during the MAGBO and LIWE festivals supporting and preserving the Ikorodu heritage.
*However, I remain deeply responsive to party responsibilities by ensuring regular, timely distribution of palliatives and donating furniture to traditional medical practitioners to further strenghten communal systems.
Ogunleye expressed gratitude to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of Lagos State, for mobilizing contractors back to project sites in Ikorodu and for supporting all state-level projects facilitated by him.
“My office remains grateful for the cooperation from key state ministries, including Mr Nurudeen Agbaje of the Ministry of Rural Development, who has continued to make Ikorodu proud.
“These past two years have been a journey of visible impact, tireless service, and steadfast commitment.
“To this i can assure you that the future looks even brighter,” he said
