Again, kidnappers break into house, abduct mother, daughter in Ikorodu community

…We are helpless—Residents

CITIZENS COMPASS — A mother and her daughter, both residents of Afa-Liberty Community Development Association (CDA), a boundary between Ijede and Igbogbo-Baiyeku in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State were reportedly kidnapped in the comfort of their homes.

Although both were said to have regained their freedom, the mother was slightly injured and was hospitalised.

Also, an undisclosed amount of money was said to be paid as ransom.

Citizens Compass reports that the duo were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, June 21, 2025, between 9:45p.m and 10:15p.m on that fateful day.

The incident was the second within a space of a month around the axis.

Citizens Compass reported in May that a social media user, Sulaiman Yusuf Opeyemi, cried out that his older brother, a real estate businessman, was kidnapped near the Alagemo axis of Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA)

He later regained his freedom after a few days in captivity.

The real estate man ran into the kidnappers at about 9.p.m on May 22, when some kidnappers targeted a male resident at Bond Estate in the Igbe-Laara area but when they did not meet their target at home, they kidnapped his wife after discharging gunshots to scare residents.

It was learnt that after the successful operation, they kept shooting into the air to pave the way for a smooth escape into the forest.

On their way, three occupants of a private car ran into these kidnappers who immediately ordered them out of the car.

They were said to have grabbed the pair of trousers of the car owner and dragged him alongside their female victim straight into the forest.

The young man was said to be a real estate businessman and was in the community in company of two other.persons when luck ran out of him.

The victims, Wunmi, 38, and Abiola, 42, were released the following Sunday as their abductors could not withstand the pressure from security forces.

Last Saturday, the kidnappers were said to have targeted a landlord and broke into his house but when they could not get him, they abducted his wife and daughter.

Both were said to have regained their freedom last night.

In a chat with Citizens Compass, residents of the area said the spate of kidnappings have rendered them helpless and called on the state government and Lagos State Police Command to beef up security in the area.

Some of the residents said the kidnappers have mapped out various strategies in some targeted areas.

Some of them who spoke on condition of anonymity said sometimes they disguise themselves as fishermen, palm wine tappers and sellers to perpetuate their evil.

The recent kidnapping occurred in Afa Liberty CDA, after Oreyo.

The CDA is the nearest to the swamp, near the abandoned flyover bridge, very close to Laara Junction.

Recall that Citizens Compass reported that residents were relocating from the Alagemo community due to the spate of kidnapping.

It was gathered that there is a hideout around the area which made it easier for the assailants to have their ways.

On Friday, June 26, 2025, the Council Chairmen in Ikorodu Division jointly signed the Joint Task Force Establishment Act and promised to improve the security architecture of the division through coordinated process.

The chairmen made the promise at the Stakeholders Security Meeting and signing of Ikorodu Division Local Joint Task Force (JTF) Establishment Act in Ikorodu Local Government secretariat.

The Citizen Compass reported that the Chairmen include; Mr Wasiu Adesina, Ikorodu LG, Mr Kazeem Olanrewaju, Ikorodu West LCDA, Mr Olusesan Daini, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Mr Wasiu Agoro, Imota LCDA and Mrs Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Ijede LCDA.

Citizen Compass also reported that six operational vehicles were presented to the JTF.
