Former Deputy Governor alleges plan to rig council elections in Lagos

…Calls for cancellation

CITIZENS COMPASS—A former Deputy Governor in Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, on Saturday, called for the cancellation of the local government elections in the State.

She alleged plans to rig the elections.

The former Deputy Governor who spoke on a radio station, Nigeria Info, said the names of many voters were missing from the voter’s list.

According to her, she could not vote because her polling unit was one of the many units moved to another area without prior notice.

“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there.

She said the relocation of polling units and the missing names were part of the plans to rig the election.

“The observation is that obviously, they have planned to rig this election because people have not been able to vote in their units.

When you get to your units, they said they have given them a list of names. I have been to my own unit and my name was missing.

The unit I was supposed to be is at Eko Hotels but they have dropped them here at Ajose Adeogun, so it shows that many people are unable to vote. Infact they have completely disrupted all the polling units.

She called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC) to cancel the election, “I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Otherwise why are people unable to vote in their units? Why is it that units are being disrupted and placed in the wrong place?”
