CITIZENS COMPASS—A political commentator/Secretary-General, Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) African Continental, Sir JP Hamzaosa Ode-Idahosa, on Tuesday, kicked against the proposed bill seeking to make the Sultan of Sokoto and the Ooni of Ife permanent co-chairmen of all traditional rulers in Nigeria.

Ode-Idahosa warned the Nigerian Senate and the National Assembly to tread with extreme caution regarding the Bill.

The commentator issued the warning in a statement saying such a move, if allowed, would undermine the unity and peaceful coexistence that Nigeria’s diverse traditional institutions have nurtured over the years.

According to him, “This bill will not only erode the cultural and traditional values of our people, but will also breed distrust, division, and discontent among various ethnic nationalities. Our traditional institutions are rooted in the uniqueness and autonomy of each kingdom and community. Forcing a national hierarchy risks destabilizing this delicate balance.”

He further warned that the bill could worsen Nigeria’s already fragile security situation, adding.

Rather than uniting the country, this legislation may fuel tribal suspicions, provoke avoidable tensions, and open the doors to new dimensions of insecurity and communal unrest.

Ode-Idahosa called on lawmakers to prioritize national unity, cultural respect, and federal balance in all legislative considerations.
