PCRC stresses importance of community policing in Nigeria

CITIZENS COMPASS—Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has stressed the importance of community policing among Nigerians as a whole.

This was the outcome of a sensitisation programme organised by PCRC, Area ‘N’ Command, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The event was held over the weekend with the theme, “Discussing Community Policing as Bedrock to Creating a Secured Environment: The Importance and Role of PCRC.”

Speaking at the occasion, the Guest Speaker, Dr. Olayinka B. Balogun PhD (CP Rtd), emphasised the need for community policing as the bedrock for a safe and secured environment.

Balogun who is a consultant Consultant to the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Fundamental Human Rights advocated the need for Nigerians to be part of PCRC.

According to him, “This lecture highlights the significance of community policing as a foundation for a safe and secured environment,”

He further underscored the importance of PCRCas a vital link between the public and the Nigeria Police, fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding.

“This engagement forms part of the ongoing initiative aimed at bridging the gap between the public and the Nigeria Police, thereby strengthening collective security, peace, and development within our communities.”

Earlier in his welcome address, PCRC Chairman, Area N Command, Adekunle Lamikanran,

stressed the need for influential Nigerians to join PCRC.

He appealed to the Area N Commander, ACP James Aghene to use his good office in achieving this.

Lamikanran said this would enable members of the PCRC to assist the Police in carrying out its duties.

He said plans were underway to complete the office of the Area N Commander.
