
CITIZENS COMPASS—The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault on a monarch, his queen and son who were stripped naked by some irate youths in the state.
This incident occurred during a new yam festival in the Idogun community in Ose local government area.
It was gathered that the monarch,
the Onidogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his queen and son were allegedly stripped naked during the assault.
Spokesperson, Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, who confirmed the assault said investigation was on.
The monarch has since called for justice through his son, Prince Victor Bakare.
The incident reportedly occurred at Ishara Quarters when Prince Victor visited his parents to join in the celebration of the New Yam Festival.
Speaking with journalists at the palace of his father, Prince Victor explained that visible injuries were inflicted on him by the attackers who humiliated his family by stripping his mother half-naked, pouring urine and other filthy substances on him, and physically assaulting his father, the king.
The monarch said the assault was a continuation of “unprovoked hostility” from a faction of youths within the community.
He condemned the act as “barbaric and unfortunate,” but commended the timely intervention of police operatives who, alongside the Amotekun Corps, quelled the unrest before it escalated.
Confirming the development, the Amotekun Coordinator in the community, Mr Omatayo Johnson, stated that the swift response of security personnel prevented the tension from escalating into a wider crisis.
Spokesperson, Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, stated that the case was under investigation.
According to the PPRO when contacted, he said: “The case is under investigation and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.”
