Ex-council chair advocates government support for traditional institutions

CITIZENS COMPASS— A former Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, on Thursday, called on government support for traditional institutions in the country.
Adesina made the call during his courtesy visit to the palace of traditional ruler, Oba Kabiru Shotobi (The Ayangburen of Ikorodu) in Ikorodu, Lagos.
He said that the visit became necessary to reaffirm his continued loyalty and respect to the traditional institutions and appreciate the traditional ruler’s support and advice given to him during his administration as Ikorodu LG chairman.
“Traditional leaders should be integrated into modern governance, particularly in areas like security, development, and peace-building.
“I recounted the relationship that occurred between myself and the king in the last 10yrs, Ayangbure supported, advised and assisted me during my administration.
“His leadership and encouragement have always been a source of inspiration to me and to all who are privileged to serve our great community,” he said.
According to him, Ayangbure assisted in inaugurating some projects such as salvation army primary school and Solomade street because of his unwavering commitment to the peace and development of Ikorodu,” he said.
Adesina, said that the growth and unity of Ikorodu remain a cause he will always be dedicated to, with the blessings and guidance of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, ” indeed I am deeply grateful to Kabiyesi”.
In his response, the traditional ruler expressed gratitude to God and indigenes of Ikorodu at home and in diaspora for their contribution towards the development of the community and commended the former council chairman and his team for their success.
The traditional ruler appreciated him for acknowledging his contributions to the development of the community and encouraged him to remain committed to his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Ayangbure noted that his presence and involvement were vital to Ikorodu’s progress and the monarch, however, offered him a royal blessing.
The chairman and his team presented Oba Shotobi with a distinguished award in his palace.
