CITIZENS COMPASS— The Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) in conjunction with Council of Regulation of Engineering (COREN) yesterday, charged members to renew their commitment to building visible impact in Nigeria.
Engr. Dominic Udoatan, National president gave the charge during the chartering and inauguration of a new chapter at Egbin thermal station in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
He emphasised that the new chapter symbolises the growth and unity of Nigerian technologists, providing a platform for collaboration, innovation, and national development through technology-driven solutions.
“Today’s event is a proof to the unstoppable growth of NATE and the collective desire of Nigerian technologists to unite under one professional umbrella.
“Our collective desire is geared to promote excellence, innovation, and ethical practice in the engineering profession,” he said.
Udoatan urged members to uphold the ideals of NATE, maintain professional discipline and advance the frontier of technological practice in their local environment for unity and growth.
Udoatan, a fellow engineering technologist, said the birth of NATE is strategic to provide a platform for technologists to exchange ideas and contribute meaningfully to national development through technology-driven solutions.
“Egbin, known for its industrious and educational culture, was praised as a strategic location for fostering progress in engineering practice,” he said.
Finally, he commended the pioneering members for their dedication and zeal, assured them of the National Secretariat’s support, and reaffirmed NATE’s commitment to building a stronger and more impactful association.
In his remarks, Mr Moktar Bounor, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) said the induction of technologists was a good step to show their commitment to supporting and promoting local technologists in Nigeria.
The CEO, who was represented by Engr. Felix Ebiware said Egbin power station has extensive engineering requirements and can serve as an avenue where local engineers can develop their capabilities and expertise.
“Having the NATE chapter being inducted in Egbin power station today is a testament to the fact that we support, promote technology and I want to see technology go to different levels.
“Basically, we have everything engineering here, we do a lot of fabrication, a lot of technological innovations. So, the technologies have their own role to play.
“You know, we have extensive engineering requirements which we can use to grow our own, grow your own crop, it means developing your own capabilities and technology,” he said.
In his welcome address, Engr. Oyedele Afolayan, chairman NATE, Lagos State branch said the inauguration of a new chapter in Egbin would reaffirm that vision and strengthen the chapter’s integration into the NATE national network.
Afolayan, said that the event would provide an opportunity to recognise members who have demonstrated commitment to technological innovation and the promotion of professional excellence in Nigeria.
“NATE, established in 1976 and incorporated in 1988, remains a professional body dedicated to advancing the interests of technologists and engineers from Polytechnics and Universities of Technology,” he said.
