CITIZENS COMPASS— Some Junior Secondary School (JSS) students of Odokekere Community Junior Secondary School in Odogunyan area of Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, were temporarily sent home on Friday, following the collapse of their classrooms.
Citizens Compass reported that many students and teachers of the school escaped death by whiskers when a building collapsed in the school on Thursday.
Recall that the building was defective as of the time of the collapse but no causality or fatality was recorded.
Until the collapse was recorded, it occupied JSS 1A, 1B and 1C.
It was learnt that on Friday, the JSS 1A, 1B and 1C students of the school were sent home pending when the government would know the next line of action.
However, other students of the school were allowed to continue with academic activities.
In a telephone conversation, some residents of Odokekere told Citizens Compass that the government has moved some blocks to the scene, an indication that the reconstruction of the collapsed building may commence soon.
A resident, Mr Olayinka Adesegun, said he was on his way home from his workshop when he received information about the collapse and he rushed to the scene. “Fortunately there was no loss of life and nobody was injured.”
Another resident, Mrs Makinde Bibiire, whose nephew was among the students that were sent home, said she paid a visit to her older sister when she saw her nephew at home. “I live a few kilometres away from her house and I went there to deliver a message when my nephew told me that they were asked to go home pending when the government would sort things out.” She said.
Meanwhile, the Council Chairman of Ikorodu North, Mayor Ameen Apanisile, has visited the school for an on-the-spot assessment.
The Lagos State Government on Friday, said it had relocated the students but as of the time of filing this report, details about the relocation could not be ascertained.
