Cole marks 2nd anniversary, promises increased voluntary compliance to environmental laws in Lagos

 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS— In commemoration of the second anniversary of his appointment as Corps Marshal of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) by Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on January 25, 2024, the Agency reiterated its commitment to ensure Lagosians adhere to the State’s Environmental laws in a statement made available to press men on Wednesday.

According to the Corps Marshal, ‘‘Since I assumed office as Corps Marshal alongside my three diligent Deputy Corps Marshals, we have not rested on our oars when it comes to restoring environmental sanity in the State and we are motivated daily to reduce infractions in all parts of the State via monitoring, advocacy and subsequent enforcement by our Special Squad and divisional operatives in order to make Lagos habitable for business as enshrined in the THEMES+ agenda of Mr. Governor’’.

Cole remarkably highlighted the clearance efforts of KAI operatives around the Ebutte Meta-Yaba railway corridor, Dolphin Underbridge, Cele Underbridge, Idunmota/Ebute-Ero/Elegbata axis as the Agency’s efforts stretched across the Lagos Mainland, Island and hinterlands to consolidate on the Ministry’s strides in reducing environmental maladies clinging to major infrastructure.

Commending the Agency’s operatives, Cole specially extolled the virtues of Unit Commanders, Divisional Commanders scattered across the 21 divisional formations of the State for their diligence, professionalism and dedication towards making Lagos cleaner and hygienic by scouting for infractions around market places, residences and commercial points and enjoining voluntary compliance in the same vein.

Highlighting the giant strides of the Agency’s operatives towards reducing the spate of street trading, jay walking, open defecation, urination, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, public disturbance by miscreants, oil bunkering syndicates and illegal drug porters, the KAI top man revealed how defaulters are arrested in their multitudes on a daily basis for onward prosecution by a competent court of jurisdiction.

The retired Army Major also applauded the Agency’s Public Affairs Unit for conducting the Lagos West Senatorial District Meeting in January, citing the initiative which kick-started in 2022 as part of renewed efforts aimed at engaging relevant stakeholders in the environmental to proffer environmentally-positive solutions, whilst suing for adherence to environmental laws at the grassroots.

In his final message, Cole also underscored increased compliance recorded with the use of strategically-erected pedestrian bridges across the State which is a positive indicator for transiting Lagosians to always embrace safety-conscious measures.
