Aroyewun inspects key projects in Igbe-Laara, Baiyeku

…To combat flooding

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Council Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), yesterday, conducted an extensive inspection tour of critical infrastructure projects across Igbe-Laara and Baiyeku communities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s proactive approach to road maintenance, drainage improvement, and primary healthcare enhancement.

Aroyewun led a delegation from Hitech Construction Company on an on-site assessment of the Igbe-Laara road network following complaints from residents and requests for urgent intervention ahead of the rainy season.

The inspection also provided an opportunity to jointly evaluate a previously submitted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) proposal by the LCDA, particularly concerning the need for comprehensive drainage intervention in the area.

Omo’ba Aroyewun emphasised that the visit was aimed at proactively addressing flooding concerns and improving vehicular movement within the axis. He assured residents that the council is working within its capacity to implement necessary palliative measures before the rains intensify.

The inspection team proceeded to Baiyeku Road, where the Chairman engaged directly with members of the Community Development Association (CDA) in the area in response to similar concerns raised by residents.

He confirmed that the council has commenced steps to provide palliative support on the main road to improve accessibility and ease transportation challenges. The intervention, he noted, extends beyond drainage improvements and is designed to enhance overall road usability and reduce hardship for commuters.

Calls for community responsibility

While addressing the residents, the Chairman urged property owners to clear grasses, sand, and debris from their frontages to prevent blockage of drainage channels. He also cautioned against the indiscriminate disposal of waste along roadsides, especially during rainfall, stressing that such practices exacerbate flooding and accelerate road deterioration.

He reiterated that sustainable development requires a partnership between government and the community, calling on residents to remain cooperative and civic-minded as the administration continues to address infrastructural challenges across the LCDA.

Omo’ba Aroyewun further reassured stakeholders that his office remains accessible to the public, encouraging residents to continue bringing forward their concerns and constructive suggestions.

Upgrades Baiyeku Primary Health Centre

The Chairman also inspected ongoing flooring rehabilitation works at Baiyeku Primary Health Centre. The upgrade is intended to enhance hygiene standards and provide a cleaner, more conducive environment for patients and healthcare personnel. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery within the LCDA.

Oliwo Amoju Road reconstruction nears completion

The tour concluded at the reconstruction site of Oliwo Amoju Road, which has progressed to the interlocking stage. The project is being executed collaboratively by the Lagos State Public Works and the assigned contractor.

Upon completion, the road will be equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve security and nighttime visibility within the community.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Omo’ba Aroyewun assured residents of his unwavering commitment to the timely completion of all ongoing projects, reiterating that his administration remains focused on delivering sustainable infrastructure and improving the overall standard of living in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
