Governor clarifies beating of APC chairman

 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS—Following the beating of the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday, distanced himself from the beating.

Adetimehin alongside other party leaders in the State, were reportedly attacked during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Akure the state capital.

Other party leaders injured during the attack included a Member representing the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Otito Atikase, former Deputy Speaker, Abayomi Akinruntan, and Adetimehin’s driver, Friday Ogbaide.

Others were the former chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo local government, Dayo Akinsuroju, and a former Commissioner, Saka-Yusuf Ogunleye among others.
While denying involvement in the attack, Aiyedatiwa claimed that some aspirants jostling for various party positions likely imported hoodlums who disrupted the stakeholders’ meeting and injured several party leaders.

Aiyedatiwa disclosed this in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, the government claimed that the allegation was false and misleading, maintaining that the state currently enjoys a peaceful political atmosphere.
Armed political thugs numbering up to 100 had reportedly stormed the secretariat, dealt beating on the Chairman, and ordered him to sit on the floor as they disrupted the meeting.
