89 birthday: Obasanjo targets 10,000 people for free healthcare in Lagos

 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS— Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is targeting 10,000 beneficiaries in Lagos suburbs as part of activities to commemorate his 89th birthday anniversary.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi at the weekend, the medical outreach is under the auspices of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation.

The Lagos Medical Mission will be held in the suburbs of Ikorodu and Alimosho local government areas of the state between Feb 27 and March 4, 2026.

According to the Chief Executive Officer CEO of the Foundation, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, “in celebration of the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF) is proud to announce a large-scale Lagos Medical Mission aimed at providing comprehensive, life-changing healthcare services — completely free of charge to more than 10,000 Nigerians.

“This special medical outreach is organized as a legacy-driven humanitarian initiative to mark Chief Obasanjo’s 89th birthday, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service, nation-building, and the well-being of the Nigerian people.”

Makinde further stated that the outreach will start on Friday, 27th February 2026 at Ijede LCDA Council Hall, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos and Saturday, 28th February 2026 at

Imota Mini Stadium, Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.

“And on Monday 2nd March to Wednesday,4th of March, 2026 the exercise will move to Alade Stadium, Command Road, Agbado/Oke-Odo in Alimosho, Lagos, where beneficiaries will receive: Free Ear Care Services and provision of free hearing aids qualified beneficiaries, Free Eye Care Services, detailed eye screening and provision of recommended prescription glasses and referral and sponsorship for eye surgeries.

The exercise will also include, free Cardiovascular Screening Blood pressure checks Heart health assessments

Preventive medical counseling, Free General Medical Consultation Doctor consultations

Diagnosis and treatment, distribution of essential medications at no cost.

He emphasized that through this Lagos Medical Mission, the Foundation continues to embody Chief Obasanjo’s vision of accessible healthcare and compassionate intervention for the underserved, stressing,

“As we celebrate the 89th birthday of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, we honour his legacy in the most meaningful way possible — by serving the people.

“This medical mission is a gift to the nation, especially to those who may not otherwise have access to quality healthcare, Makins said, adding, “the outreach is open to:

Elderly citizens, Children and families, Individuals living with untreated hearing or vision challenges, Persons with cardiovascular concerns, Low-income and vulnerable residents across Lagos

Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as services will be rendered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis,” he disclosed.
