CITIZENS COMPASS— An articulated truck on Monday, crushed an officer with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to death at his duty post at Badagry roundabout along the Badagry–Seme Expressway axis of the state.
The accident also claimed the lives of two commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders who were waiting to pick passengers.
The accident which occurred at about 9.45am threw residents into mourning.
Badagry roundabout is notable for human and vehicular activities.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the truck suffered brake failure before it recorded the tragedy.
As at the time of filing this report, LASTMA was yet to issue an official statement over the accident.
However, the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Badagry, Yusuf Sanni, said that the driver had been arrested and handed over to the Police.
While attributing the crash to loss of control, he urged motorists to steer clear of the area while emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage.
The bodies have been deposited at a morgue while the ill-fated truck has been impounded.
