CITIZENS COMPASS— A bus conveying eight passengers yesterday, plunged into the river in Oyo State.
So far, the Oyo State Fire Service has recovered three bodies from the river.
The incident involving a vehicle with a number plate, LEW 484 XA (Osun) occurred in the afternoon.
A video of the incident monitored by Citizens Compass captured a onlookers at the riverbank as rescuers struggled to recover the ill-fated bus
Some of the onlookers were calling for prayers for a successful recovery. A female background noise was heard calling for prayers while announcing the scene of the incident.
Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Thursday.
Akinwande in a statement said that the rescued five persons have been rushed to Ona-Ara private hospital, Jegede area for medical attention.
He also disclosed that the three bodies have been handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.
“A Suzuki bus (Osun) LEW 484 XA with eight (8) passengers lost control and crashed into a river, five (5) persons rescued alive and conveyed to Ona – Ara private hospital Jegede area, while three (3) persons recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.
“A crew of OYRTMA from Ona Ara division and Hon. Glorious Temitope, Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government were in attendance. The incident was as a result of reckless driving”.
