CACOBAG reacts to alleged threat by Yoruba agitator, Sunday Igboho on 2027 campaign
CITIZENS COMPASS—A human rights group, Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance (CACOBAG), on Sunday, condemned the alleged recent threat by the Yoruba Nation’s agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho over upcoming campaigns by political parties.
The alleged threat was ahead of the 2027 elections.
Recently, Igboho was quoted to have boasted that nobody should bring the campaign trains of former Presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the South West Zone.
Igboho reportedly said, ” If dem born anybody well, the person should bring Atiku or Peter Obi to Yoruba land for campaign, they will know who Sunday Igboho is. Tinubu must finish his second term and after 2031, we will still beg Nigerians to add additional two years till 2031.”
Reacting to the alleged threat in a statement, CACOBAG Chairman, Toyin Raheem, said: CACOBAG on behalf of its affiliates, including Centre for Democracy and Justice CDJ, Ambassadors for Democracy AfD, Centre for People’s Defence CPD and Campaign for Constitutionalism and Human Rights CCHR condemns Sunday Igboho’s threat that certain individuals shouldn’t campaign in specific areas, undermining Nigerians’ democratic rights.
Igboho’s threat is empty and limited to his room. He can’t prevent Nigerians like Omoyele Sowore, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Hashim Olawepo, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Makinde, Adewole Adebayo, Rotimi Amaechi and any Nigerian from campaigning anywhere.
At Comrade Pa Alfred Ilenre’s memorial held years ago at the hall of Comrade Femi Falana SAN’s chambers, with Senator Banji Akintoye chairing, Prince Toyin Raheem said self-determination isn’t about rascality or individual interests but collective well-being of people.
We pay tribute to Pa Adebanjo and Comrade Yinka Odumakin. We trust they would have condemned Sunday Igboho’s uncouth and unlawful statement, which exposes his opportunism.
We urge all Yoruba leaders, Afenifere Leader Worldwide, Oba Senator Dipo Olaitan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, Ooni of Ife, Chief Supo Shonibare, Senator Banji Akintoye and others to call Sunday Igboho and others like him to order.
Those also canvassing that non-indigenes shouldn’t be allowed to contest for governorship in a particular state should withdraw their unconstitutional statements and stop promoting disunity. Any Nigerian can contest for governorship in any state. An Igbo man ran for Lagos State governorship in 2003.
Nigeria is one , no tribal or indigene-ship considerations should override capability and ability in electoral contests. Electorates are employers of political office seekers, they are to decide.
Nigerians should ignore and reject Sunday Igboho’s threat and continue to promote unity and development of the country .
