Police detain man for shouting, “No water, No light” during governor’s visit

 

CITIZENS COMPASS— Niger State Police Command yesterday, confirmed the detention of a resident of Suleja, Hamisu Abdullahi, for criticising the state government during a visit by the state governor, Me hammed Umar Bago.

The suspect was captured shouting “no water, no light” during the visit.

The incident occurred in Suleja shortly after Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Emir of Suleja’s palace.

Spokesperson for the Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest.

Abiodun said the suspect was detained over alleged attempts to disrupt official activities during the governor’s Sallah visit.

The governor was said to be visiting the palace for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration when the suspect was arrested.

According to the spokesperson, the 38-year-old electrician was arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for investigation.

“One Hamisu Abdullahi, 38, of Suleja, was arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna… for suspected thuggery and attempting to disrupt government activities during the Sallah visit.”

The suspect’s brother, Haruna Abdullahi, said he was released after five days in detention.
