Aroyewun reaffirms loyalty to House of Representatives Member, Jimi Benson

…Supports continuity

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Council Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), yesterday, reaffirmed his support for a House of Representatives Member, representing Ikorodu Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

Aroyewun dismissed the rumour making the rounds that he was not in anyway supporting the continuity of Benson popularly known as Julius Berger of Ikorodu.

The Council Chairman disclosed this in a statement he personally signed and made available to Citizens Compass.

It read: Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, My attention has been drawn to a recent publication suggesting opposition to the continued representation of Honourable Babajimi Adegoke Benson in the House of Representatives, particularly as it relates to a purported position by the Justice Forum.

I consider it necessary to state, clearly and without ambiguity, that such claims do not reflect my views, nor do they represent the true position of the good people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

As the Executive Chairman of this LCDA and a committed member of the Justice Forum, I reject any attempt to misrepresent the stance of our political family or to project personal opinions as a collective decision. The Justice Forum is a structured and disciplined platform that does not operate through fragmented or unauthorised voices.

From my direct engagement with residents, community leaders, youth groups, artisans, and stakeholders across our wards and CDAs, the reality is unmistakable: there is strong, consistent, and growing support for Hon. Babajimi Benson.

This support is not built on sentiment; it is built on visible performance, accessibility, and sustained impact.

Hon. Benson has redefined representation in Ikorodu Federal Constituency. His work speaks in roads, schools, healthcare facilities, empowerment programmes, and opportunities that have directly improved the lives of our people.

Track record that speaks

Having personally inspected several federal projects facilitated by him within our LCDA and across Ikorodu Division, I can confidently affirm that his contributions are both extensive and transformational.

Infrastructural development:

Over 100 roads facilitated across the constituency, including the ongoing 13km Offin–Oreta Road, a critical economic corridor linking over 50 communities.

Within Igbogbo/Baiyeku, roads such as Ilemere, Olu-Odo, Idi-Oro, Morekete, and Selewu Link Roads stand as evidence of purposeful representation.

Security Strengthening:

The Smart Police Station in Elepe has significantly enhanced security architecture, improving safety and response capacity within our communities.

Healthcare Advancement:

The delivery of the 80-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Imota remains a generational milestone, while plans for a Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo/Baiyeku are underway.

Human Capital & Social Welfare:

Through initiatives like the iCare FoodBank, thousands of vulnerable residents receive monthly support. Educational grants, ICT interventions, NIN registration support, and youth empowerment programmes continue to expand opportunities.

Communication & Community Voice:

The establishment of IKD 106.1FM has strengthened information flow and amplified grassroots voices.

Legislative Excellence:

As Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Benson has sponsored over 50 bills, including landmark legislation such as the DICON Amendment Act and contributions to national reforms in security and energy.

Results.

Why continuity matters

This conversation goes beyond tenure. It is about continuity, consolidation, and sustained progress.

Development is not accidental. It is built over time through relationships, experience, and capacity. Disrupting that momentum without compelling reason risks reversing hard-earned gains.

Hon. Babajimi Benson has not only delivered projects; he has built a development pipeline that continues to attract federal presence to our constituency. That kind of capacity is not easily replaced.

Justice Forum’s principle of responsible politics

As a proud member of the Justice Forum, I emphasise that our tradition is one of dialogue, respect, and strategic consensus, not public contradiction or political sensationalism.

No responsible political group undermines a performing representative who has consistently delivered value to the people.

Rather than hide behind unfounded excuses or manufactured narratives, anyone who aspires to contest against Hon. Babajimi Benson should courageously present themselves at the ballot and test their popularity and acceptance among the people, as the democratic process provides a level playing field for all.

My position

I, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, stand firmly and unapologetically in support of Hon. Babajimi Benson.

This position is informed by:

Verified performance.

Direct impact on our communities

Consistent engagement with the people.

Proven leadership capacity.

At this critical moment, I urge our people to stay focused on what truly matters: development, stability, and progress.

We must resist distractions and avoid narratives that do not reflect the will of the majority.

Our constituency has come too far to be divided by misrepresentation.

Hon. Babajimi Benson has earned the trust of the people through service, delivery, and leadership.

Supporting his continuity is not about politics alone, it is about protecting progress and securing a stronger future for the Ikorodu Division.

The best way to predict the future is to build on what is already working. And in this case, what is working is clear.
