CITIZENS COMPASS—The owner of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) has reportedly jumped into the lagoon in Lagos State.

The car owner whose identity could not be ascertained reportedly parked the car on the Third Mainland Bridge and thereafter jumped into the lagoon.

The incident reportedly occurred yesterday as captured by a trending video.

In the video, the SUV with license plate, KTU 453 JY, painted in ash colour, was parked on the Third Mainland Bridge as a male background noise narrated the incident.

According to the background voice, he was on the other side of the road when he noticed the SUV owner standing beside the vehicle in a confusing manner.

The narrator said this drew the attention of many road users including him and he decided to go and turn in order to interact with the SUV owner.

He said barely had he made the turn when he noticed the man from afar jumping into the lagoon.

Fortunately, a fisherman who noticed the man quickly paddled his canoe near the victim, rescued and transported him to safety.

Also, an Instagram user, Isaac Fayose, shared a video of the incident on his handle.

He wrote, “Please, check on your family and friends. This just happened today. Who knows what went wrong.”

In the video, a background voice explained what transpired at the scene.

The background voice said he saw the victim stop his car on the bridge and leave his phones inside the vehicle before jumping into the water. He added that he quickly went to the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority at Iyana-Iworo to alert officials and seek help.

Moments later, local fishermen stepped in and rescued the man from the lagoon. The video showed the victim sitting in a canoe while a fisherman paddled him safely back to land.

Confirming the incident, LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, said, “I was just told now that it happened yesterday. But it’s not LASTMA that rescued him. It’s the fishermen that rescued him.”
