Police detain ASP, Inspector over death of motorcyclist
CITIZENS COMPASS— Two policemen in Oyo State have been detained following the death of a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada rider.
The officers were attached to the Border Patrol Unit in the Iseyin area of the State.
The Oyo State Police Command disclosed this on Saturday, in a statement.
The Command said the duo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), were detained on Saturday.
The statement signed by spokesperson for the Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the officers were in custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
Ayanlade, in the statement, said that the motorcyclist identified as Umar Yahúza, was involved in a lone fatal motorcycle accident that occurred in Iseyin in the early hours of Saturday.
He was later rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at the hospital and had been buried according to Islamic rites.
“The two officers involved, an assistant superintendent of police and an inspector attached to the Border Patrol Unit, have been detained pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Upon request, the corpse was released to the Seriki of the Hausa community for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.”
