‎Spelling Bee on Yoruba culture births in Igbogbo-Baiyeku

As Yoruba Youth Council thanks royal father, council chairman

 

CITIZENS COMPASS— Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, has played host to the maiden edition of a Yoruba quiz and spelling competition.

The competition with the theme, “Yoruba L’oni, Yoruba L’ola – So Daadaa, Ko Daadaa” was recently held at IBLCDA Multipurpose Hall.‎

It was organised by the Yoruba Youth Council (YYC), Lagos State,

‎Speaking at the event, the Council Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olamilekan Aroyewun (HOA), commended the initiative of YYC, Lagos State, describing the programme as highly impactful in preserving Yoruba language, culture, and heritage among the younger generation. He further announced that the competition would become an annual event due to its educational and cultural importance.‎

‎At the end of the keenly contested competitions, winners emerged in various categories as follows:

The spelling competition had Sowunmi Mufuliat Taiwo ‎in the first position, Olanipekun Rodiat ‎in the second position and Badejo Adesewa (Zumuratul Islamiyah Junior School) ‎in the third Position.

‎In ‎quiz competition, Olanipekun Rodiat took the first position while Bakare Aliyat Oyindamola from Oreyoo Senior Grammar School took the second position and Babalola Ayanfeoluwa ‎took third position.

‎In terms of ‎junior debate competition,  the first position went to ‎Ogundipe Fisayo from Zumuratul Islamiyah Junior School, the second position went to Muyideen Abdullahi from Oreyoo Junior Grammar School and third position to Oreagba Aminat from Oriwu Junior Model College.

Among other competitions were senior debate competition with Adeyanju Oyinade going home with the first position, Aliu Fatimo Ashabi from Oreyoo Senior Grammar School with the second position and Makanjuola Shakirat from Community Senior Grammar School Baiyeku with ‎the third position.

YYC Chairman in Lagos State, Barrister Deji Folorunso, congratulated all winners and participants for their outstanding performances. He also commended the Coordinator of YYC Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omoluabi Ayangbola Seyitan, alongside all local government executive.members for their dedication, commitment, and tireless efforts towards the successful organization of the programme.

‎‎The organisers express appreciation to His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, for his fatherly role, moral support, and wise counsel towards the success of the event.
