CITIZENS COMPASS— An akara balls seller has been alleged of mixing human faeces with the content before frying it for sale.
A viral video captured the seller allegedly carrying out the dastardly act in Cross River State.
The woman was said to be selling the akara balls alongside bread on Ani Street along the Ikom–Obudu Road area of the State.
Information accompanying the video said the woman was allegedly caught on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Reports said some concerned citizens confronted the woman at the scene and a video of the atrocity was shared on X formerly known as Twitter.
In the video, the woman was forced to sit on the ground after she was exposed. In the footage, she reportedly admitted to the act after being questioned, sparking shock and outrage in the area.
The incident quickly spread online, triggering widespread reactions from Nigerians who expressed fear, anger, and disbelief over the alleged act. Many users called for urgent investigation and stronger public health monitoring.
A user, @Maxims9j, described the situation as dangerous, saying, “This is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. If true, it’s a serious public health danger that could expose people to life-threatening infections. It also shows clear failure in food safety monitoring and government oversight. Authorities must investigate urgently, punish those responsible, and tighten inspections to protect the public from such risks.”
A worried commenter, J🅰️H🆑INT🅱️ILLI🅾️NZ (@Jahclintbillio1), said, “Omo I hope I’ve not eaten her Akara before because I visit Ikom time to time”.
Expressing frustration, CoachDEO_ (@CoachDEO_) wrote, “Shey this one too na government? People are just wicked 😠😠”.
