CITIZENS COMPASS—Nigerians woke up on Sunday with the reports that Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old set of twins, Peter and Paul, the abducted relatives of the former Minister for Power, Adebayo Adelabu have been rescued from the kidnappers’ den.

Recall that the trio were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Reactions yesterday, trailed the viral video released by the Nigeria Police Force following the rescue.

She is a younger sister to the minister as the abduction reportedly occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, on her way to the children’s school.

Police sources said the victims were rescued during a late operation on Saturday, June 6, 26.

In a post on its official X handle formerly known as Twitter, the Nigeria Police Force shared footage from the operation, capturing security operatives moving through what appeared to be a bush path and later bringing out the rescued woman and her children.

The Police said two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during a gun duel with the operatives.

The footage has sparked criticism by many online users who berated the Police for not being proactive about the abduction of students and teachers of Ogbomosho schools in Oyo State.

“You people pay ransom, stage gun battle talk say you rescue them. No wahala, continue,” wrote @iOccupyNigeria.

“What about the ones kidnapped before them? One of the little one is unalive remember. It’s because he is the ex minister?” asked @BishopPOEvang.

Many comments highlighted perceived class bias in security responses.

“Good. Well-done. Can we use the same energy to rescue the Oyo State school children and their teachers kidnapped at Orire?” said @OluOlofin1.

“Great job! Now why hasn’t the NPF used the same precision to rescue the Oyo State children and their teachers? Why is it selective for the elites and not for the masses?” added @hyelfeda1.

Others were more direct in their criticism.

“Make Una just de act movies. You guys will become tired of these movies. Keep joking with the life of Nigerians ….. we are not dumb,” stated @Dedehydra.

“You are swift to rescue this people. Why where you not able to do same for the children that was kidnapped 3 weeks ago. What of others kidnapped before this people. It is well,” commented @Borngreata22.

Some users linked the case to broader calls for self-defence measures.

“I beg you people please! Legalise guns for self defense. The Nigerian police can’t be there to stop everything,” wrote @Gbemithenerd.

Citizens Compass reported that the incident occurred in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of the State.

Viral videos on social media captured the moment the abductees were matched into a car and drove off to an undisclosed destination.

One of the videos captured a red car with its doors open at the scene of the incident.

The former minister’s mother, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adelabu

said she was filled with thankfulness for the release of her daughter and grandsons alive.

She noted that her prayers are also with the victims of Oriire abductions, hoping for their safe return to their families.

Mrs. Adelabu made the call while speaking with journalists at her residence in the Challenge area of Ibadan following the rescue of her daughter and grandchildren by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday night.
