…Residents applaud gesture
CITIZENS COMPASS— Many residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State in Saturday, applauded the council for providing trucks, takes, brooms and other items to ensure a successful July 2026 environmental sanitation exercise in the area.
The Council Chairman Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun alongside his team monitored the five wards in the area during the environmental sanitation exercise.
Citizens Compass reports that the exercise recorded a massive turnout of residents across the wards.
The exercise, which has remained a consistent feature of the Council’s governance calendar, saw the LCDA administration provide trucks, rakes, brooms, and other cleaning materials to residents, as streets, drains, and public spaces were cleared of refuse and debris across the local council area.
To ensure comprehensive coverage of the exercise, reporters were deployed to monitor compliance across the five wards of the LCDA, gathering reactions from officials and residents at various locations.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Executive Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, thanked the people of IBLCDA for their impressive turnout and commitment to cleaning their environment, urging them to remain consistent with the exercise in subsequent months.
Also speaking in Ward C4, the Councilor representing the Ward, Hon. Yusuf Bello, said it was the duty of residents to keep their environment clean, expressing satisfaction at the level of participation recorded in his ward.
“It’s our duty to keep our environment clean, and I’m glad our people are doing that,” Hon. Bello said.
In Ward C3, the Councilor representing the Ward, Hon. Saidat Adeoba, said the Council would continue to sustain the sanitation exercise, adding that officials would keep encouraging residents to participate actively in keeping their surroundings clean.
She noted that sustained enlightenment and consistent mobilisation of residents remained key to the success of the exercise going forward.
In Ward C2, the Councilor representing the Ward, Hon. Hakeem Solawon, spoke extensively on the importance of the sanitation exercise, describing it as a critical intervention with far-reaching positive effects on both public health and the environment. He noted that a clean environment directly translates to healthier living conditions for residents, reduces the risk of disease outbreaks, and fosters a greater sense of communal pride and responsibility. Hon. Solawon further urged residents of Ward C2 to see the exercise not merely as a monthly obligation, but as a lifestyle that should be embraced daily for the collective good of the community.
Meanwhile, in Ward C5, it was gathered that residents were seen actively clearing gutters and drainage channels of blockages, in a bid to forestall flooding and improve the free flow of water within the community. Officials monitoring the exercise in the ward commended residents for prioritising drainage clearance, noting that unblocked gutters remain critical to preventing environmental hazards, particularly with the rainy season in full swing.
Council Management staff, the Nulge Workers, and Supervisors were also actively involved in the exercise, monitoring compliance and working alongside residents across the various locations to ensure a thorough clean-up.
The Council authorities reiterated its commitment to sustaining the monthly sanitation exercise, warning that appropriate sanctions await defaulters, in line with extant environmental sanitation laws of Lagos State.
