CITIZENS COMPASS— The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has congratulated the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Lagos State, His Royal Majesty Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, on his assumption of office as Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, and graduation as a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from the institution.
Oba Ogunsanwo formally performed his first official duty as Chancellor on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during the combined 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 convocation ceremonies of the highly subscribed university.
The Sultan commended the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to LASU, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for appointing Oba Ogunsanwo as Chancellor of the university in February 2026, describing the monarch as eminently qualified and deserving of the appointment.
His Eminence expressed confidence that Oba Ogunsanwo would deploy his wealth of experience, wisdom and leadership qualities to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and development of the university.
The Sultan also congratulated the monarch on the conferment of the Doctor of Business Administration degree, describing the achievement as another testament of his commitment to learning, leadership and service.
In a statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Sultan’s Media Team and dated Thursday August 20, 2026, the monarch said:
“We are very proud of the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Lagos State, Oba Folarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, and we wish him the very best as he begins his tenure as Chancellor of Lagos State University.
“We are confident that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on his responsibilities and contribute positively to the continued advancement of the university.
“We equally congratulate him on the conferment of the Doctor of Business Administration degree. This is a remarkable academic achievement and a worthy addition to his record of service and leadership.”
The Sultan further appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu for recognising Oba Ogunsanwo’s capacity and appointing him to lead the university’s governing and ceremonial affairs as Chancellor.
He prayed for wisdom, good health and continued success for the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in his new responsibility, while wishing him a fruitful tenure as Chancellor and greater accomplishments in his service to humanity.
