CITIZENS COMPASS—Suspected thugs on Tuesday, reportedly attacked the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi during a trip to Benue State.

Tension reportedly broke out as the assailants blocked a major road during the trip.

Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, disclosed this in a video on her X handle.

The video captured the blocked route.

According to Umoh, the incident occurred shortly after Obi and his entourage arrived in Benue State.

“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” she wrote.

In a separate video shared by Umoh, some individuals could be seen running after vehicles in the convoy in what she alleged was an attempt to attack the entourage.

It was not immediately clear who the individuals were or what prompted the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Government and the Nigeria Police Force were yet to react to the attack.

Reacting to the attack, Peter Obi condemned it in totality saying: I am in Benue today not for campaigns. I only wanted to go to a place where people lost their lives, to condole and show solidarity with them.

You can see the level to which our politics has degenerated. That was why yesterday, while joining the APM candidate in launching his office, I used the opportunity to plead with our people, let our next politics be a politics of unity.
