CITIZENS COMPASS— The 2026 Ofala Festival came to a close on Wednesday with a Royal Banquet hosted by Globacom in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.

Attended by the monarch, cabinet chiefs, Globacom trade partners and high net worth customers, the banquet marked the grand finale of the festival sponsored by Globacom.

Speaking at the banquet, the company’s Divisional Head, South East, Mike Ehumadu, highlighted the role of corporate partnerships in helping traditional institutions preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

Congratulating Igwe Achebe, the Ofala Festival organising committee and the people of Onitsha on the successful celebration, Ehumadu reaffirmed Globacom’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural diversity, strengthening community ties and showcasing the nation’s heritage to the world.

Music, comedy and cultural performances added colour to the evening, with Aniweta Mazeli, Boy o Boy and the Groove Band entertaining guests. Comedian MC Ezegetive also kept the audience engaged with his performance, adding to the memorable atmosphere for the royal household, community leaders and other attendees.

In recognition of the competitive spirit, discipline and community pride displayed by the various Onitsha age grades during the festival, Globacom presented cash prizes and trophies to winners of the different competitions. It also presented hundreds of bags of special Basmati rice to all the members of the different age grade associations.

Through its continued support for Ofala, Globacom demonstrates the role corporate partnerships can play in helping traditional institutions preserve cultural heritage while creating wider social and economic benefits for their communities.
