…Beneficiaries thank government
CITIZENS COMPASS— The 4th batch of 300 indigent residents of Apapa Local Government, Lagos State, on Thursday, received N100,000 each in continuation of the empowerment programme by the council.
Recall that three batches of 300 indigent residents of Apapa have received N100,000 each since the programme took off some months back.
Citizens Compass reports that Apapa Local Government is under the leadership of Hon. Idowu Adejumoke Sebanjo under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who urged the beneficiaries to put the money into good use.
The empowerment programme tagged, “Apapa Constituency Residence Palliative Economic Generic Data (ACREPEGED)”, was held at the Council’s secretariat.
The Council widely known as the Port City Council, held the first phase of the empowerment programme on Friday, March 6, 2026 where 300 indigent citizens were empowered with N100,000 cash.
It will be recalled that the council aims to empower 4,000 indigent citizens before Sebanjo round off her tenure as the council chairman.
Addressing the gathering, she explained that the empowerment is the council’s way of distributing palliatives to indigent residents.
Sebanjo said that Lagos State governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu should be applauded for approving the empowerment.
She seized the occasion to canvas for people’s vote for her party during the 2027 elections.
In attendance was the Vice Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Hon Ismail Ganiyu who said the account numbers of about 100 beneficiaries have been credited on Thursday.
On the procedures to get credited, the vice chairman said, “Residents should register their names with the local government, and present their means of identification as Apapa residents,”
He equally enjoined the beneficiaries to use the fund judiciously saying, “ Beneficiaries must present proofs that they are residents of the local government. The empowerment is a way to assist their businesses and day to day life,”
Commending the efforts of the council chairman, he said, “Special gratitude goes to the chairman for this opportunity and most importantly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving the state government directives to make life easy for the people at the grassroots level.”
Also in attendance was Hon. Wasiu Adedayo, the Supervisor for Planning and Finance, Apapa Port City, who said he was grateful to God for giving the council a visionary chairman in the person of Sebanjo, “She is a mother who could be described as talk and do.
“She is open minded; a woman with a golden heart who listens to the people and shares from their burdens,”
On the selection of beneficiaries , he said,
“
There is no favouritism in the selection process. The most important thing is to meet all the criteria of being a resident,
He further pleaded with the people that the fund should be used for things that would benefit them, like paying the children school fees, business support and other important things
The President has allowed the support to reach the local and state governments and we are grateful for this.
This is also another opportunity to thank the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and a better opportunity to wish him Happy birthday.”
Speaking with Citizen Compass, some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government at all levels.
A beneficiary, Oguntideju Eyihanto, said the money would be added to her small scale business.
Another beneficiary, Pastor Madu Hyacinth, applauded the council chairman, “She is a good mother who cares for everybody. This is my first time of receiving such benefits after all the years I have spent in Apapa. The money will be added to my business.” He said.
