Banker allegedly stabs lover to death in Ikorodu

…Second incident in one month –Residents

CITIZENS COMPASS –A banker consulting for a new generation bank , Joseph Popoola, has allegedly stabbed his lover to death in the Ori-Okuta, Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, following an argument on money issues.
The banker who is currently on the run was said to have stabbed the first daughter of the woman who is receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital, Ikorodu.

Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the incident occurred on the night of Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Ajileye Street as the 63-year-old banker stormed the deceased’s house in anger.

Speaking with our Correspondents, some residents said the Sunday incident was the second of its kind within a space of a month,

Speaking about what led to the untimely death of Popoola’s wife, a resident, Malim Abdul, said the lovers were living separately though no children between them and the banker was doing all he could to sustain the relationship.

He said, “He pays frequent visits to her and both were well known in the neighborhood but the relationship was not blessed with a child though the woman has children from her previous marriage,”

Continuing he said, the information we gathered was that the banker was a traveller who makes money outside his banking job.

“He was said to have kept some money in the woman’s account hoping to retrieve it any moment but for the past one month, the woman had rebuffed every move to return the money as requested by the man.

“Having explored all avenues, the banker stormed his lover’s house in the early hours unfortunately the woman did not release the money and this led to an altercation which later claimed her life,”
Daughter hospitalized

Our Correspondent gathered that the first daughter of the woman was allegedly stabbed by the banker during the altercation.

The incident has caused panic in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, Policemen from Isawo have visited the scene for investigation while Popoola is at large.

Some residents who spoke with our Correspondent said the Sunday incident was the second of its kind in Ori-Okuta.

A resident who simply gave his name as Adex said the first incident occurred about a month ago when a man stabbed his wife to death and thereafter died of suicide.

“There was a family issue that led to the man’s arrest and his children testified against him in court which earned him a ten-year jail term.

“Upon his return, he found out that the children had built a house for their mother and were preparing for housewarming.

“Without wasting time, he stabbed the woman to death while he drank a poisonous substance and the children have remained orphans since then.”

The spokesman, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident when Citizens Compass contacted him on phone on Tuesday evening.
