…Police station razed
CITIZENS COMPASS— One person was feared killed while a Police station was razed in Isan-Ekiti, Ekiti State, as a gubernatorial election was held across various communities.
Isan-Ekiti is the home town of former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The violence was recorded in Isan-Ekiti shortly before the election took off in the area.
Videos from the scene posted on social media captured violence in the area as residents scampered for safety.
Some of the videos captured a police station being razed as some youths protested the alleged killing by a police officer. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear as of press time.
There were conflicting accounts from the scene but an account claimed that the victim was shot dead in cold blood by a policeman, triggering outrage among youths in the community. Another version linked the unrest to rising political tension ahead of the governorship poll, with some opposition voices alleging intimidation and attempts to compromise the voting process.
The incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking to be reelected at the poll.
As of the time of this report, there were no official statements about the Isan-Ekiti incident.
