CITIZENS COMPASS— A United States court has convicted and sentenced to five years in prison Franklin Nwadialo, the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State, over his involvement in a $3.5 million romance scam.
Nwadialo was found guilty for his role in an online fraud scheme that targeted victims through fake identities and deceptive romantic relationships. US authorities said the fraud involved manipulating victims emotionally and convincing them to part with large sums of money under false pretences.
The Ogbaru council chairman had earlier been arrested in Texas after investigators linked him to a $3.3 million romance fraud operation. At the time, prosecutors filed multiple wire fraud charges against him, alleging that he and his associates used fabricated stories and online relationships to defraud unsuspecting victims.
