Defence Minister resigns
CITIZENS COMPASS— A few hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave a matching order to terrorists, the Minister for Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his appointment.
Mohammed Badaru cited health reasons for his resignation.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed Badaru’s resignation in a statement, on Monday.
“President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for the minister’s service to the nation.
“The President is expected to communicate Badaru’s replacement to the Senate later this week as consultations continue.”
Badaru Abubakar, 63, served as a two-term governor of Jigawa State between 2015 and 2023 before being appointed Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023.
The resignation came at a period when concern mounts following the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.
