Driver, passengers die in autocrash

… Two injured

CITIZENS COMPASS —The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has confirmed that  the driver of a 14-seater Mitsubishi 300 bus and two passengers were roasted to death when their vehicle burst into flames along Ezinano-Nkwo on Agulu road in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, in Anambra, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday, attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.

He said this occurred the previous night and seven persons, comprising four males and three females, were involved; three were dead while two were injured.

The FRSC sector commander said the bodies were deposited at the morgue.

While condoling with the bereaved families, he cautioned motorists against exceeding speed limits and wrongful overtaking.

He quoted one of the injured passengers saying that the 14-seater Mitsubishi 300 bus was heading to EkwulÍbËa from Amawbia.

He said the deceased were the driver and two passengers (a male and a female).

He said: “Soon after we took off from Amawbia, one of the passengers cautioned the driver against speeding, but he did not listen.

“While trying to avoid a pothole, the driver lost control and the bus veered off the road, somersaulted and burst into flames after hitting the fence of a building by the roadside.

“I managed to escape with other passengers, but we could not assist the three victims who were already engulfed by the raging flames.”
