DSS intercepts gunmen, recovers weapons in Kano

… sues for peace at Eid-el- Fitri

CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Department of State Services (DSS) says it arrested two gunmen and recovered some dangerous weapons in Kano State.

DSS disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Peter Afunanya and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

According to him, the arrest took place on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

Among the recovered weapons were two AK-47 assault rifles; two empty AK47 Magazines and a red boxer motorcycle.

The security operatives said some of the weapons were hidden in a sack of yams.

DSS called for vigilance as Muslim faithfuls celebrate Eid-el-Fitri across the globe particularly in Nigeria.

The statement reads, “The suspects were on transit to deliver the arms for a planned attack in one of the states in Northern Nigeria.”

DSS maintained that the development underscores the need for citizens to be extra vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious movements, persons or acts to security agencies nearest to them while calling on operators and patrons of fun, hospitality and tourism centres to be cautious during the festive periods.

“They should scale up measures to ensure safety of their facilities,” the statement added.

The Service reiterated its commitment to its constitutional roles of providing intelligence to nib crime in the bud, and pledged to work with sister agencies and other stakeholders to ensure adequate security during and after the festivities.
