Fire guts four buildings on Lagos Island 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —Billions of Naira worth of Property were razed on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, when fire raged and gutted four buildings at Docemo area of Lagos Island. 

The inferno which occurred before Noon initially affected house numbers 47, 49, and 51 but later spread to number 53.

Due to the intensity of the fire, house number 49 was said to have collapsed as firefighters were faced with various challenges to access the buildings.

Eyewitnesses’ accounts sa8d there was shortage of water at the scene such that firefighters went as far as neighbouring communities to source for water. 

Apart from the properties lost, there was no injuries or loss of life to the incident. 

Margaret Adeseye, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident on the Agency’s X Handle formerly known as Twitter, “An update on the ongoing fire emergency in Docemo reveals a significant reduction in the intensity of the blaze. 

“The affected properties are identified as house numbers 47, 49, and 51.

Tragically, house number 49 has collapsed due to the fire’s intensity and the close proximity of buildings. Additionally, the fire has spread to house number 53.

“Emergency response teams continue to work tirelessly to contain the spread of the fire and protect the surroundingp properties in spite of combustible materials involved including fire crackers which are triggering at intervals.

“We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency personnel.

“Further updates will follow as the situation evolves.”
