From Oyo, woman travels to Lagos to steal Day-old baby 

.. says Alfa needs it

CITIZENS COMPASS – A brave nurse has prevented  a woman from stealing a Day-old baby at a private hospital in Ahmadiya in Meiran-Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at about 6p.m.

The 49 years old woman was said to have arrived at the hospital main entrance dressed in a pair of trousers, tops and cap and told security men that she came to congratulate a relative who had just been put to bed in the hospital. 

Eyewitnesses’ account, said having gained access into the hospital premises, the woman wandered and gained access into the post-natal ward where a woman had just been wheeled into the ward from the Labour room, with her baby. 

An eye witness, Ramon Isiaka told Citizenscompass that the incident occurred barely 30 minutes after the woman was delivered of her baby when the suspect sneaked into the ward. 

According to the eyewitness, the mother was unconscious as at the time the incident occurred while her baby was on bed as a nurse was preparing to attend to the baby. 

“The suspect gained access to the ward through the rear gate and cajoled the nurse that she was a relative to the newly born baby. 

” She carried the baby and reached for a bail of N100 notes from her bag pretending that the money was to be spent on the baby’s mother. 

” The astonished nurse suspected foul play and raised alarm. Immediately, the suspect dropped the baby and took to her heels. Unfortunately for her, the scenario was being monitored through the Close Circuit Television (CCTV), of the hospital and its security team was alerted which led to the suspect’s apprehension. 

Speaking with Citizenscompass, the baby’s father, Mr Adams AbdulBarri Olamilekan who work in the neighbourhood, said he was away to pick some items for his wife when he received a distress call from a colleague, ‘On rushing to the scene, a crowd had already gathered but the security team of the hospital prevented a mob action on her. 

“Upon interrogation, it was revealed that she came all the way from Oyo State to carry out her plans. 

” What came to my mind was that I am from from Katsina State, though born and brought up in Lagos so how am I related with an Oyo woman? 

” She said an Alfa from Fiditi, Oyo State, asked her to get a Day-old baby though she did not reveal further details. 

“She was later handed over to the Police from Ijaiye Division whom immediately commenced investigations into the matter.” 

A resident of Ahmadiya who pleaded anonymity said the hospital is in a secure environment which made it difficult for the woman to escape. 

As of Saturday evening, a senior Police officer in Ijaiye Division said efforts were on to arrest the Alfa. 

Meanwhile, a source in the hospital said its management has put machineries in motion to forestall future occurrences.
