CITIZENS COMPASS— In its determination to preserve, promote, and project the country’s cultural heritage, Nigeria’s indigenous telecommunications company, Globacom has partnered with the people of Onitsha for the historic 2026 Ofala Festival.

Sustaining a relationship that has endured for over 15 years, the telecommunications giant returns as the official sponsor of the festival. This year’s celebration holds special significance as it marks the 25th Ofala under the reign of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe.

The 2026 edition is anchored on the theme “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress,” capturing the enduring spirit, enterprise, and determination of the Onitsha people.

An official statement from Globacom emphasized that the company’s long-standing association with the festival “reflects a philosophy that places culture alongside connectivity as instruments of national development.

“For Globacom, Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration. Our sustained partnership with this magnificent institution reflects our belief that preserving heritage and advancing society are not competing imperatives; they are mutually reinforcing pillars of a progressive nation. This is the spirit of Globacom’s clarion call, ‘Never Settle for Less’, which is to honour what is worthy, while continually striving for something greater.

“Never Settle for Less is a philosophy of progress: to respect the foundations upon which we stand, while seeking to broaden possibilities, deepen impact and move the nation forward, we are proud to support a cultural institution that honours its roots while engaging the future.”

Ofala has grown from a sacred royal rite into a platform for cultural pride, community engagement and collective progress. For Globacom, supporting it goes beyond sponsorship; it is an act of corporate citizenship and cultural stewardship. The festival features key highlights such as the Obi’s seclusion and ceremonial emergence, a Medical and Wellbeing Outreach, the Oreze International Art Exhibition, Youth Carnival, and the grand finale of Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala. This aligns with Globacom’s own philosophy of advancement.

Just as Ofala honours its heritage while embracing the future, Glo continues to drive telecommunications access, innovation and digital inclusion, connecting Nigerians to limitless opportunities.
