Governor’s aide escapes death in gunmen attack
CITIZENS COMPASS— Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, the Chief of Staff to Zanfara State Governor, escaped death by whiskers when suspected gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed his convoy.
Lugga was ambushed along the Funtua–Gusau highway near Kucheri village.
Time was about 6:16 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
He was said to be returning from an official engagement when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the attackers emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the convoy, targeting the vehicle conveying the Chief of Staff.
A bullet reportedly pierced the windshield, narrowly missing the driver, while another assailant attempted to fire at close range but his weapon malfunctioned.
Despite the attack, the driver successfully maneuvered the vehicle out of the ambush, and all occupants escaped unhurt.
For over a decade, bandit attacks which began in the northern parts of Nigeria have gradually spread to the Eastern and Southern parts.
