Gunmen attack soldiers, set prisoners free in Kogi

SUSPECTED gunmen have attacked the medium federal correctional centre in Kogi State leaving hundreds of prisoners to escape.

The incident occured on Kabba – Lokoja highway, on Sunday night through Monday morning.

The suspected gunmen were said to have opened fire on the soldierd keeping guide on the road before killing them before attacking the correctional centre.

The gunmen thereafter launched an attack on the prison officers before setting all the prisoners free.

An early morning downpour on Monday was said to have led to their escape as the buildings housing the inmates were reportedly submerged in water.

 

However, about 100 of the inmates have been rearrested, while an unspecified number voluntarily returned.
