Gunmen shoot PoS operator, three others

...they collected bag full of money- Victim

CITIZENS COMPASS– THE ongoing currency swap across the nation has taken a different dimension in Bauchi State when a Point-of-Sales (PoS) operator and three customers were robbed and shot on gun point.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 27, 2023, in Zaki Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

It was gathered that the armed men took advantage of the rush by residents who were trying to meet up with the initial deadline of Tuesday, January 31, 2023, to deposit their old currency unfortunately for them, this turned tragic as they were attacked and robbed of the money.

This led to the victims being hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Azare.

Abdullahi Haruna, a PoS operator, said, “I had a bag of money with me. They asked me to give them the money on gunpoint, or else they would kill me, so I gave them the bag full of money.”

Corroborating Haruna’s claim, another victim of the armed robbery, Lamaran Bappah, said he went to the terminal to swap his old notes with new ones but this turned out to be his undoing.

Lamaran who was saving money for his wedding preparation said, “It was money I saved in preparation for my marriage,” he said.

However, the victims were said to be responding to treatment at press time.

Reacting, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has sympathised with the victims during a visit to the hospital.

Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Aminu Alhassan said that an arrest had been made.
