Hoodlums invade palace, sack Lagos monarch

CITIZENS COMPASS- SOME hoodlums suspected to be cultists on Thursday, invaded the palace of Oloto of Oto Awori Kingdom, Oba Aina Kuyamiku, in the Ijanikin area of Lagos State.

Vehicles belonging to the monarch were destroyed, while some shops in the area were also burnt.

This was attributed to a clash between a rival monarch as one of them was planning 15th coronation anniversary.

Many residents and commuters at Ijanikin Community in Ojo Local Government Area (LGA), were injured.

The hoodlums were said to have disrupted activities by blocking the Badagry Expressway and grounded vehicular movement to and fro Lagos in that axis.

It was learnt that part of the problem was an alleged assault of an Awori native by a masquerade participating in the anniversary celebrations.

To protest the assault on the native, hoodlums wielding dane guns, machetes, charms and other dangerous objects, were said to have ordered vehicles to turn back.

Motorists who attempted to resist them were beaten up and their vehicles vandalised, said a driver who witnessed the incident.

He claimed that Policemen attached to Ijanikin Division located not far from the violence spot could not contain the situation and retreated into their station.

Motorists who attempted to resist them were beaten up and their vehicles vandalised, said a driver who witnessed the incident.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident.
