How gunmen attacked Buhari’s convoy- Presidency

OFFICE of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has provided details about the Tuesday, July 5, 2022 attack o the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina state.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Spokesperson to the President, Garba Shehu.

According to Shehu, Buhari wasn’t in the convoy, but a team of advance security, aides and media officials were being conveyed to Daura, where the President plans to spend the Sallah holiday.

The statement reads, “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.”

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” Shehu said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Katsina Police also confirmed the killing of an Area Commander by gunmen operating in the state.

The Area commander, Aminu Umar was killed in an ambush staged by more than 300 gunmen reportedly operating in the Dutsinma area. It is not known if the same bandits who attacked the convoy of President Buhari was the same who killed the area commander.
