How to link your NIN, BVN to bank accounts

CITIZENS COMPASS —It is no longer news that some bank accounts in Nigeria have been suspended owing to non linkage of Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN) to bank such account(s).

The suspension has resulted in many individuals or groups being stranded at various locations for inability to link their BVN and NIN to their bank accounts.

As at Friday, March 8, 2024, a prominent Nigerian (names withheld) was stranded in Abuja as the money budgeted for her expenses could not be accessed owing to suspension of her bank accounts.

Speaking with our Citizens Compass, she claimed to have contacted her accounting officer over the issue but was asked to visit the nearest branches with necessary documents to sort herself out.

The bank customer who travelled from Apapa to Abuja for business purposes said she was trying to raise funds for a rerun ticket to Lagos.

This type of scenario has resulted in a large turnout of customers at various banks across the country, slowing down the process and becoming somewhat frustrating.

However, users who are conversant with the use of bank apps and shortcodes are not bothered about long queues as they can complete the process from their place of comfort.

All banks have made available means through which their customers can link to their bank accounts to avoid being shut out from making debit transactions.

Banks like GTB, UBA, Zenith, Firstbank, and Access have popular shortcodes that make it easy for their customers to carry out online transactions.

Below is a general rule that applies to all bank customers who are looking for a link to their account(s), whether inside a banking hall or through the internet.

Link BVN, NIN to bank account via Internet Banking

Log in to the internet banking platform of your bank, select the BVN/NIN option, click on a new request, enter your code, select the bank where your BVN/NIN was issued, answer the secret questions, and follow the instructions.
