I’m not desperate for presidency but…

… Peter Obi clarifies stance on ADC

CITIZENS COMPASS— Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, on Sunday, reflected on the possibility of him dumping the opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) addressing growing concerns among his followers.

Reports have it that Obi may likely align with former Kano State governor to run as President and running mate.

Meanwhile, Kwankaso in a statement debunked the likelihood of vying for the presidential position.

Obi, in the Sunday message, said that his decision to step away from the ADC, could be linked to the internal and external interference in the party.

According to him, the same forces that destabilised his former political platform have now found their way into the ADC, creating tension through court cases, division, and power struggles.

He, however, clarified that his decision was not driven by any personal issues with key party figures, including the party’s chairman, David Mark, or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Obi used the statement to express frustration over what he described as a toxic system, where integrity is often misunderstood and genuine efforts are met with suspicion and criticism.

We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic… where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal,” he said.

He also spoke about the emotional burden of leadership, noting that those who try to serve sincerely are sometimes isolated, even by people they expect support from.

Despite the challenges, Obi insisted he is not driven by personal ambition, stressing that his focus remains on building a better Nigeria.

“I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that works,” he added.

His comments come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with many watching closely to see his next move.

Obi ended his message on a hopeful note, reiterating his belief that a better Nigeria is still possible.
