Ikorodu LG boss to prioritise workers’ welfare

…Gives N100,000 to Best Performing Staff

CITIZENS COMPASS – The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, on Wednesday, restated its commitment to prioritise the welfare of workers in order to get a better service delivery.

He made the promise during the annual Staff Forum meeting organised by Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Citizen Compass reports that the event was the third edition since the chairman was elected and sworn in

alongside 56 other local government chairmen in Lagos State.

“One of my administration’s focal points is the provision of a conducive atmosphere and prioritising our workers welfare.

“If you want the best from a worker, you must ensure his welfare is improved for increased productivity,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Sunday Ogunfowora, Lagos State chairman of NULGE, appreciated the chairman and appealed for an upward review of the monthly running cost of each department in the council considering the economic hardship caused by subsidy removal.

He admonished workers to be deligent in their duty, desist from truancy and take their health very serious as well as bring in their best on the job and increased the Internationally Generated Revenue(IGR) for more motivation.

“I want to appeal to staff to be up and doing their job and ensure improvement in the IGR to improve welfare.

“Workers should deligent and also take their health seriously,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Kazeem Adebambo, Ikorodu LG NULGE chairman, also appreciate the council chairman for his empathy and being a passionist on workers welfare.

He urged him to provide a good health centre so that council staff would enjoy and be anle to take care of their various health challenges.

Also speaking, Mr Shaanu Shipe, new council manager, applauded the chairman for his kind gesture adding that “This is an exemplary leader, passionate about his workers”.

The Council Chairman, in his response, promised to put in place a beffiiting clinic for the staff as well as increase their monthly impress from N350,000 to a reasonable amount having considered the country’s inflation for effective service delivery.

The chairman said his administration has also embarked on the rehabilitation of all the department conveniences for a better working place and provided working equipment for a better output.

“When NULGE executives made the request, I immediately directed some of our staff to look for an apartment within the council that can be used as a clinic.

“I will ensure that all your request is resolved as soon as possible because my administration is passionate about staff welfare,” he said.

Citizens Compass also reports that the chairman distributed office furniture and cabinets to all the offices, presented two new buses with promise to add three to the revenue department to enhance service delivery

The chairman also donated N100,000, N50,000 and N50,000 respectively to three best performing staffers of the department.

The Lagos State NULGE executives also presented an award of excellent performance to the council chairman in acknowledgement of his infrastructural development of Ikorodu Local government.
